Kaymer hofft auf Erfolg beim Czech Masters in Prag
Martin Kaymer believes a few small tweaks to his game will be key in helping him achieve success ahead of his first appearance at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in Prague this week.
The double Major Champion and three-time Ryder Cup winner will tee it up on Czech soil for the first time in his professional career at the Albatross Golf Resort, with this week also marking the start to the race to automatically qualify for the European Team for The 2018 Ryder Cup.
After a four-week break and a tied 31st result last week at the Made in Denmark, the German star is raring to go and will be aiming to add to a trophy cabinet that includes the 2014 US Open and 2010 PGA Championship amongst his 11 European Tour titles.
“I had four weeks off before the tournament last week and I’ve heard a lot of good things about the event here. I talked to Matthew Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood, and a few of the other guys and they were really impressed by the golf course, so I look forward to playing the pro-am tomorrow to have a look for myself and then we will give it a go on Sunday.
“I heard last year the golf course was in very good condition for us players, and as long as you have good greens it’s always a fun test usually, but I also think it is a very good thing that they want to improve the golf course. They have changed a few holes, especially in the past four or five months, so it is a good intention and tells us players that they want to make the event even bigger.
“I think I need to work a little bit on the short game, I was hitting a lot of fairways and greens last week but I think on the green I need to make a few adjustments here and there, but that could be a very quick and easy fix.
“My focus is not the Ryder Cup team, it’s more about trying to get somewhere in the top 15, top ten in the Race to Dubai, that would be great, and then the Ryder Cup. Obviously since I played the very first time, you always want to be part of it, especially when it is in Europe, it is one of the greatest events that we have in our job.”
